First grade is working on measuring "from edge to edge." Last week we finished up finding out who was the tallest person. This week we took a leap to see who can do the longest standing long jump. These pictures are from Mrs. Renigar's class.
I know this is not an exciting post, but the easiest way to log information for the staff meeting. I decided to use a Webcounter for my Weebly to help decided what best to spend my time doing. Here is the web site I used: But it is easy enough to google for free counters. I have one on my home page and on another page.
In regards to the Weebly. Super Easy. I have really found it helpful in finding safe sites for student internet research. I even dragged my laptop with me when I took a fifth grade class to the Media Computer lab. While they were doing research and needing another site or could not find information, I would locate a new website and then publish a new button. Super easy and keeps the kids from Googling anything not appropreate by accident. Today and the next week or so, the 3rd grade classes are watching me take apart a chicken. Not to make soup, but to see how the muscles, joints, bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage all work together. Mrs. Brown's class was the first to experience this today! They did a great job. Here are some of the comments that I heard. "It was awesome and at the sametime gross" - Miles "This was disgusting and really cool!" - Parker "I thought digging inside the bones was really cool." - Sam and from someone in the peanut gallery, "I will never look at chicken the same way again!" Here is someone crossing off our check list of things we wanted to see! Is that a ball and socket joint we are seeing?
I decided that the old Wiki was hard to navigate/create. So, introducing the new website. This will allow me to post videos of lessons, pictures and stories of what has occured in the Brooks Science Lab. I will also add new facts to the Crazy/Weird/Fun Facts page. On the grade level pages there are websites that maybe used in class, as well as videos. Enjoy!
